The National Transport Corporation (NTC) has been set up in the early 1980s to operate public transport services in the island. From modest beginning, after taking over the assets of ex-Vacoas Transport Co. Ltd, NTC has grown into a major transport institution.

Rose Hill Transport Ltd. was registered in 1954 and it regrouped 5 individual operators who were operating on Route No. 1 since 1952. It is listed on the Development Enterprise Market (DEM) of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) since May 2001.
